Moscow Exchange Confirms December 1 Crypto Trading Launch With Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT

Russia’s Moscow Exchange has officially confirmed plans to launch regulated cryptocurrency trading on December 1, 2026, initially supporting Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT).

The platform will use its existing stock market infrastructure, with transactions cleared through the National Clearing Center. Non-qualified retail investors must pass a knowledge assessment and will face annual purchase limits of 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,700) per broker, while qualified investors will have fewer restrictions.

The launch follows Russia’s new cryptocurrency legislation, which took effect in September 2026, and an October trading pilot. Moscow Exchange will offer same-day and next-day settlement options, with plans to expand its supported digital assets. Sberbank estimates that cryptocurrency trading could reach 4 trillion rubles (approximately $46 billion) in the first year, although only 20% may flow through regulated exchanges. The initiative marks a significant step toward integrating digital assets into Russia’s traditional financial system.
