Hargreaves Lansdown Opens Bitcoin and Ethereum ETN Access to UK Retail Investors

Hargreaves Lansdown, the U.K.’s largest investment platform, has begun offering Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded notes (ETNs) to eligible customers, marking a major shift for a company that previously questioned Bitcoin’s status as an asset class.
The platform has listed nine crypto ETNs from providers including BlackRock’s iShares, WisdomTree, 21Shares, Invesco, CoinShares and Bitwise, with annual product fees ranging from 0% to 0.35%. Access remains tightly controlled: investors must meet eligibility requirements, pass an appropriateness assessment and complete an FCA-mandated 24-hour cooling-off period before trading. The launch follows the U.K.’s decision to reopen retail access to crypto ETNs in October 2025 and represents another step toward bringing Bitcoin and Ethereum exposure into mainstream investment platforms, allowing investors to track crypto prices without directly managing wallets or private keys
