CryptoPunks are one of the first NFT collections on the Ethereum blockchain, launched in June of 2017 by Larva Labs, and later acquired by Yuga Labs. It consists of 10,000 unique 24×24 pixel art images that depict mostly humans, with other unique types such as zombies, apes, and aliens considered more valuable because of their rarity. Each CryptoPunk can exhibit a combination of 87 unique attributes, known as “traits.” CryptoPunks initially started out slow, with the NFTs being given away for free to whoever wanted them in 2017.
