Sending Ethereum with Coinbase and MetaMask Wallet

It’s important to note that while MetaMask is a popular wallet for NFT marketplaces, there are other wallets that can also be used to interact with these marketplaces, such as Trust Wallet and MyEtherWallet. It’s always a good idea to research and choose a wallet that best suits your needs and preferences.

Additionally, when sending Ethereum or any other cryptocurrency, it’s important to double-check the receiving address before sending the transaction. Any errors or typos in the address could result in the loss of your funds, as they cannot be retrieved once sent to an incorrect address. It’s always better to take the time to triple-check the address rather than risk losing your hard-earned funds.

To send and receive Ethereum, the first step is to obtain the address of the receiving wallet. If you’re using Google Chrome, you can do this by opening your MetaMask extension and looking underneath the “Account 1” heading, where you’ll see a string of letters and numbers – this is your Ethereum wallet address. It’s important to note that this address is only for Ethereum and its tokens. If you try to send an ETH-incompatible currency to this address, you’ll lose the currency into the blockchain and won’t be able to retrieve it.

To copy the address, simply hover over it and click “Copy to clipboard”. You can paste it later on when needed.

Next, open Coinbase and find the “Send / Receive” button in the top right-hand corner. Click this and you’ll be met with a pop-up in the middle of your screen. Make sure to complete the boxes accurately to ensure that your Ethereum goes to the correct wallet. A warning will appear if you enter an invalid Ethereum address.

Pay with Ethereum and paste the MetaMask wallet address that you copied earlier into the “To” field, e.g. 0aza4F8F953b684c941F9E9f79062f65F41B45601e. You can also add a note as to why this money is being sent, although this is optional.

Once you’ve filled out all the necessary information, you’ll see the blue “Continue” button become active. Click it and you’ll be automatically redirected and prompted to review your transaction. Pay attention to this review as it will inform you of any additional fees and give you an estimate on how long it will take to complete the transfer.

If you have 2-step verification enabled, you’ll be prompted to enter the code from your authenticator app or text message. Complete this step and then press the confirm button.

Finally, you’ll see a screen confirming your transaction, as well as a confirmation email that specifies the amount sent and the receiving wallet address. Once the transaction is complete, open your MetaMask extension again to see your updated Ethereum balance. Don’t worry if this isn’t immediate – if there are a lot of transactions happening at once, there may be a slight delay in the speed of transfer.
