Coinbase Brings Tokenized U.S. Stocks Onchain With 24/7 Access for Non-U.S. Investors

Coinbase has launched tokenized U.S. stocks on Base for eligible investors outside the United States. Bringing shares of Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet onto blockchain rails.

Each token is issued under Base’s B20 standard and backed 1:1 by an underlying share held with a regulated custodian in a bankruptcy-remote structure, giving holders direct economic exposure to the corresponding company. Unlike traditional shares limited by exchange hours, the tokens can be held in self-custody. Transferred and traded onchain 24/7. While also potentially being used in DeFi applications such as lending and collateral. Corporate actions including dividends and stock splits are reflected through an onchain adjustment mechanism. However, the products remain unavailable to U.S. persons and certain restricted jurisdictions.

The launch represents another major step in the convergence of traditional equities and blockchain-based finance. Supporting Coinbase’s broader ambition to create an “Everything Exchange” where stocks, crypto and other financial assets can operate within the same ecosystem. It also adds momentum to the rapidly expanding tokenized real-world asset (RWA) sector by bringing some of the world’s largest publicly traded companies directly into DeFi infrastructure.
