Nike and StockX Settle NFT and Counterfeit Sneaker Lawsuit After Three-Year Battle

Nike and Detroit-based resale platform StockX have settled a three-year trademark clash in New York federal court, ending a high-profile dispute over sneaker-linked NFTs and counterfeit shoes.
The settlement, reached in late August, cancels a jury trial scheduled for October and dismisses all claims with prejudice. The case began in 2022, when Nike accused StockX of infringing its trademarks through “Vault” NFTs tied to sneaker images without permission. Nike later alleged the platform sold counterfeit pairs, claims supported by a March 2025 ruling that found StockX liable for distributing fake Nikes.
Analysts say the settlement signals a turning point for tokenized goods, with brand-backed NFTs likely to thrive while gray-area resale platforms face increasing legal and compliance pressure.
