Centralized Crypto Exchanges Smash Records with $11.3 Trillion in Trades
Centralized crypto exchanges hit a record $11.3 trillion in trading volume in December 2024, a 7.58% increase from the previous month, driven by Bitcoin’s historic surge past $100,000.
Binance led spot trading with $946 billion, while Bybit and Coinbase followed. Derivatives trading also reached a new high of $7.58 trillion, fueled by market volatility and significant liquidations, including a $1 billion event after Federal Reserve comments on interest rates. In 2024, Bitcoin transactions exceeded $19 trillion, more than doubling 2023’s total, while the U.S. solidified its lead in Bitcoin mining, controlling over 40% of the global hashrate.
