Worldwide CBDC Boom: 134 Nations Exploring Digital Currencies
Recent data reveals that 134 countries, covering 98% of global GDP, are exploring central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), with 66 of these nations already in pilot or development stages.
All G20 countries are involved in CBDC projects, with notable progress from China and European nations. The U.S. trails behind Europe and Japan but is participating in the cross-border Project Agorá. The Atlantic Council’s updated tracker shows 44 CBDC pilots underway. With China’s e-CNY leading in transaction volume, and fully launched digital currencies in the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Nigeria.
