Worldcoin’s Orb Upgrade Aiming for Broad Acceptance in Biometric ID
Worldcoin is ushering in a new era for its Orb device, used in the biometric ID and wallet project to verify users through iris scanning.
In response to feedback on the current design’s polarizing nature, Alex Blania, CEO of Tools for Humanity, the entity behind Worldcoin, is spearheading a redesign to make the Orb more user-friendly. Blania envisions the forthcoming iteration to emulate the sleek aesthetics of an “Apple product,” aiming for broad appeal and addressing the love-hate dynamic that the current sci-fi-like appearance has generated. The upgraded Orb, set to launch in the first half of 2024, has already undergone field testing, promising a more universally appealing design with personalized features.
Since its official launch in June, the Worldcoin project has witnessed remarkable growth, amassing over 3 million unique users across 120 countries. Recent statistics show a surge of 190,000 signups in just the past week, underscoring the project’s accelerating momentum. Co-founder Sam Altman had previously noted a signup rate of one every eight seconds in July, reflecting the widespread interest and adoption of Worldcoin’s innovative approach to biometric identification and decentralized wallets.
