Vitalik Buterin Proposes Decentralization Boost for Ethereum Network
In a recent blog post, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin outlined plans to enhance decentralization within the Ethereum network by proposing modifications to its penalty system.
Responding to Elon Musk’s inquiry on Twitter about his platform usage, Buterin addressed concerns regarding large stakers or pools controlling multiple validators, risking correlated failures. Currently, Lido operates the largest ETH staking pool, comprising over 302,000 validators, followed by Coinbase with 142,000 validators. Buterin’s proposal seeks to address this issue by imposing higher penalties on major stakers and pools to incentivize physical decentralization.
The proposed penalty mechanism adjusts penalties based on the average rate of missed attestations, aiming to discourage centralization and promote network resilience. While Buterin acknowledges the proposal’s imperfections and the need for further research, it presents a step towards fostering a more distributed Ethereum network.
