Vintage 2012 Bitcoin Wallet Comes Alive, Shifts 1,000 BTC Worth $60 Million

A bitcoin wallet dormant since September 25, 2012, has made its first transfer. Moving 1,000 BTC valued at $60 million. 

The transaction, detected at block height 852,190 by btcparser.com, coincided with Bitcoin’s price nearing $60,000 after a two-week hiatus. Originally acquired when BTC traded at $12.10 per coin, the 1,000 bitcoins have appreciated significantly over 11 years and nine months. 

The funds were transferred from a legacy P2PKH address to a native SegWit or Bech32 address, marked by a transaction fee significantly higher than average, showcasing privacy measures scoring 75 out of 100. Such transfers of dormant bitcoins from early years are rare. Highlighting the substantial value increase BTC has experienced since its inception.
