US County Launches Groundbreaking Guaranteed Income Program with $4 Million in Free Funds
In an effort to provide financial support and stability, Washington state is launching the Thrive Prince George’s pilot, a $4 million guaranteed basic income program.
Geared towards youth aged 18 to 24 who have aged out of the foster system and seniors over 60, the two-year initiative will distribute $800 monthly payments with no employment-related requirements. Funded by a combination of public and private sources, including foundations and non-profit organizations, the program aims to alleviate poverty and enhance economic opportunities for participants.
Thrive Prince George’s seeks to empower individuals by providing financial flexibility, allowing them to address basic needs, pay off debts, secure permanent housing, pursue education, or spend more time with their families. Participants like Phyllis Wright view the program as a “lifeline,” offering relief for essential expenses and providing a sense of financial freedom.
