U.S. “De-Risking” Policy May Impact Bilateral Trade with China, Analysts Warn
The U.S. ‘de-risking’ strategy against China is under fire from analysts who believe it’s a veiled decoupling attempt. Despite U.S. Treasury Secretary Yanet Yellen’s warning of disastrous consequences, Chinese analysts see through the euphemism. Senior researcher Zhou Xiaoming argues that the strategy limits economic interaction, evidenced by Chinese companies being added to the ‘entity list’ and tighter export controls on chips.
This approach, however, not only affects China’s global relations but also has a negative impact on bilateral trade, which dropped by 11.2% in the first four months of 2023. As the EU also contemplates de-risking, China emphasizes its commitment to peaceful development and opposes bullying practices.
