Trump: BRICS Alliance ‘Broken Up’ by 150% Tariff Threat

Donald Trump claimed his administration’s 150% tariff threat played a key role in weakening the BRICS alliance.
During a meeting on February 21, Trump said he warned BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and others—against undermining the U.S. dollar by proposing a new currency. In response, he announced a hefty tariff on any BRICS state attempting such a move. According to Trump, the threat caused the group to “break up” and halt discussions on creating a new currency, though BRICS nations continue exploring alternative trade methods in national currencies.
While some, like Russia, have downplayed the idea of abandoning the dollar, others, including Iran, still back the concept of a unified BRICS currency.
