Syrian NGO Eyes Bitcoin to Boost War-Torn Economy with Crypto Banking
The Syrian Center for Economic Research (SCER) has proposed a Bitcoin-based banking system to help rebuild the war-torn economy and protect Syrians from inflation and currency devaluation.
The “Bitcoin Policy in Syria” suggests creating a regulatory framework to legalize Bitcoin exchange, trading, and mining, as well as digitizing the Syrian pound backed by digital assets. The proposal comes as Syria’s new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, seeks international legitimacy and funding to revive the economy.
However, the SCER warns of challenges, including external sanctions and technical difficulties, but remains hopeful that the Syrian people can embrace modern technology for economic transformation.
