Stacks Enhances Lightning Network Protocol with Nakamoto Upgrade and DeFi Capabilities
The Stacks protocol for the Bitcoin Lightning Network has completed its Nakamoto upgrade, finalized on August 28, 2024. This upgrade, part of enhancements started in April 2024, strengthens transaction finality, reduces miner extractable value (MEV) opportunities, and enhances network resilience.
It also sets the stage for sbtc, a programmable Bitcoin asset, facilitating decentralized bridging between Bitcoin and the Stacks network. These updates aim to increase transaction speeds and advance the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem on Bitcoin.
