Solana (SOL) Takes a Step Toward Environmentally Sustainable Blockchain

Solana (SOL), a blockchain platform that is vying with Ethereum (ETH) for dominance, recently launched a carbon emissions tracker as part of its effort to reduce its environmental impact. The Solana Foundation, which oversees the project, claims that it’s the first smart contract blockchain to have its emissions measured in real-time. Developed in collaboration with carbon data platform Trycarbonara, the emissions tracker is embedded directly on Solana nodes and provides an accurate measurement of the platform’s ongoing carbon footprint. In addition, the tracker includes comparison charts that show the equivalent emissions of various Solana transactions. The Solana Foundation also noted that it is working on other features to improve the platform’s energy efficiency. With the new tracker, Solana hopes to inspire other blockchain projects to follow suit and measure their emissions in real-time, as it works towards building a more sustainable blockchain community.
