Security Breach Alert: FBI and Homeland Security Join Forces to Investigate Hack on SEC’s X Account, Gary Gensler Discloses

SEC Chairman Gary Gensler has revealed that the FBI and Homeland Security are actively investigating. Last week’s hack of the SEC’s X account. 

The compromised account was used to make a false announcement. About the approval of spot market Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Gensler assured that there is no evidence suggesting the intruder gained access to SEC systems, data, devices, or other social media accounts. The unauthorized party posted misleading information and liked non-SEC account posts. Before the exploit was terminated about 30 minutes to an hour after the compromise. 

In response to the incident, US Senators, including Ron Wyden and Cynthia Lummis, penned a letter seeking clarification on the SEC’s cybersecurity measures. Gensler stated that the SEC is collaborating with law enforcement agencies. Including the SEC’s Office of Inspector General, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Promising updates on the investigation.
