Ripple Proposes XRPL Lending Protocol to Power Institutional On-Chain Credit

Ripple has unveiled a proposal for a native lending protocol on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) aimed at bringing institutional-grade credit markets on-chain.
The proposed framework would allow financial institutions to use tokenized assets—including stablecoins, treasuries, and private credit—as collateral for loans, while keeping underwriting, compliance, and credit approval processes off-chain. Instead of replacing traditional risk management, the protocol automates loan servicing, repayments, interest calculations, and default handling on the blockchain, creating a standardized infrastructure for institutional lending. Ripple believes the proposal could unlock new use cases for tokenized real-world assets by enabling businesses to access working capital more efficiently while maintaining regulatory compliance.
The protocol is still subject to approval by XRPL validators, but if adopted, it would mark another major step in Ripple’s strategy to expand the XRP Ledger beyond payments into institutional decentralized finance and tokenized asset markets.
