Ripple CEO Calls For New SEC Leadership To Foster Crypto Innovation

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has expressed strong opposition to the potential appointment of Caroline Stebbins as the next SEC Chair, arguing that it could negatively impact the crypto industry.

He criticized Stebbins for her involvement in the controversial actions of former SEC Director Bill Hinman, particularly in relation to the ongoing Ripple case. Garlinghouse warned that appointing Stebbins would bring the industry back to a “regulation by enforcement” era, which he believes harms innovation in the crypto space.

This criticism comes as speculation grows about the future of SEC leadership, with President-elect Donald Trump expected to remove current SEC Chair Gary Gensler early in his term. Some industry figures are hopeful for a more crypto-friendly approach under new leadership, with candidates like Paul Atkins and Dan Gallagher seen as potential replacements. Garlinghouse remains optimistic about the future of crypto in the U.S., anticipating a shift towards clearer and less punitive regulations under the incoming administration.
