Privacy-Focused Quarkid Digital ID Wallet to Debut in Buenos Aires

The City of Buenos Aires has announced its upcoming launch of a blockchain-based digital ID wallet called Quarkid, starting in October.
Formerly known as Tangoid, this “self-sovereign” wallet will empower users to securely hold their birth and marriage certificates, with plans to incorporate additional digital documents later this year. Quarkid utilizes the Zksync Era, a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Layer 2 protocol, to ensure privacy and confidentiality. Developed by Extrimian, an Argentine blockchain services company, Quarkid aims to provide this service nationwide.
The initial phase in October will allow citizens to access basic documents, with further expansions planned, ultimately targeting over 2.5 million Buenos Aires citizens. Quarkid aspires to extend its reach to all 45 million Argentinian citizens, potentially paving the way for broader adoption in Latin America. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing government services and digital identity practices in the region.
