Polygon Prepares to Launch Upgraded Token as Part of Redesigned System Architecture
The team behind Polygon, a blockchain platform, is gearing up to launch a new token called POL as part of its newly redesigned system architecture.
Positioned as a “3rd generation token” after Bitcoin and Ethereum, POL will allow token holders to serve as validators within the network, validating numerous chains and networks that Polygon is continually expanding. This token represents an upgrade from the existing MATIC token, which phases out in the process. Polygon will share the details of POL’s smart contracts in an upcoming Polygon Improvement Proposal (PIP).
Polygon envisions itself as a network of networks, termed Polygon 2.0, focused on scaling Ethereum. This vision includes multiple Polygon-based chains, bridges, and the integration of privacy-enhancing zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs. The goal of Polygon 2.0 is to establish the Value Layer of the Internet, enabling anyone to create, exchange, and program value.
