Panama City Embraces Crypto for Public Payments

Panama City will become the first municipality in the country to accept crypto payments for public services. Following a unanimous City Council vote.
Mayor Mayer Mizrachi confirmed that citizens can soon pay taxes and fees in cryptocurrency. Which will be converted into U.S. dollars via a partner bank before reaching the city’s treasury. He emphasized that this move marks a step toward embracing digital finance and positions Panama as a potential crypto hub. A formal rollout will follow once banking partnerships are finalized, aligning with the country’s broader push to regulate digital assets and blockchain services.
