Opera Mini’s Minipay: Empowering African Users with Blockchain Wallet

The Opera Mini web browser creator has recently unveiled Minipay, a blockchain-based wallet on the Celo blockchain.

This wallet, integrated into the Opera Mini browser, facilitates swift and cost-effective stablecoin transactions for users across Africa. Initially, it will enable rapid peer-to-peer stablecoin payments and introduce users to decentralized apps (dapps) and Celo network projects.

Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, views this partnership as a turning point in digital finance for users in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. Celo Blockchain co-founder Rene Reinsberg expressed excitement about collaborating with Opera and suggested this integration could be the game-changing use case Web3 has been anticipating. The stablecoin wallet will begin operating in Nigeria, with plans to expand to other African countries.
