North Korea’s Bitcoin Fortune: Bigger Than El Salvador’s as US SBR Looms

North Korea has quietly become one of the largest government bitcoin holders, sitting on 13,562 BTC worth $1.14 billion.
This rise is fueled by the Lazarus Group, a state-linked hacking collective responsible for major cyber heists, including a $1.4 billion theft from Bybit. Meanwhile, the U.S. has officially launched its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) with 198,109 BTC, the largest government stash.
The U.K. follows with 61,245 BTC, while Bhutan and El Salvador trail behind North Korea. As Washington positions its reserve as strategic, Pyongyang continues to amass stolen crypto, blending cybercrime with geopolitical maneuvering.
