Nike Takes a Leap into the Future with NFT-Infused Sneaker Release
Nike, at the forefront of NFT adoption following its 2021 acquisition of crypto startup RTFKT, has broken new ground with its latest collaboration.
The Nike x RTFKT Dunk Genesis sneakers are available to the public through a presale, eliminating the need for ownership of an expensive RTFKT NFT. Priced at $222 each, the Ghost Edition and VOID Edition come with a unique futuristic design. Featuring detachable mods like the “Vial Clip Tongue” and “Modular Heel Shield.” Despite not requiring an NFT for purchase, the sneakers are intricately tied to NFTs through an embedded NFC chip, allowing owners to obtain a digital collectible. The VOID Edition is set to ship by July 31, 2024, and the Ghost Edition by August 31, 2024.
While the blockchain for the associated NFTs remains uncertain. RTFKT has previously used Ethereum, and Nike operates its .Swoosh digital kicks platform on Polygon. This marks a significant step for Nike, following earlier NFT-linked releases like the RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. The collaboration underscores the evolving synergy between fashion, technology, and blockchain. With RTFKT’s Clone X NFTs, known for their substantial trade value and popularity in the market.
