Meta to Challenge $220 Million Data Privacy Fine Imposed by Nigeria
Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has fined Meta $220 million for alleged data privacy violations involving WhatsApp LLC.
The FCCPC’s investigation found that Meta did not adequately obtain user consent for data collection and usage. The fine, imposed under the FCCPA 2018 and its 2020 regulations, has prompted Meta to announce an appeal. The company disputes the claims and reaffirms its commitment to protecting user data.
