Massive Growth: Bitcoin Startups See Explosive 7.6x Funding Spike in 4 Years

Bitcoin-native startups have experienced a 767% surge in pre-seed funding transactions since 2021, according to Trammell Venture Partners (TVP), an Austin-based venture capital firm focused on early-stage Bitcoin innovation.
In its third annual report, TVP revealed that these startups—founded on the belief that Bitcoin is the future of money—raised around $1.2 billion by the end of 2024. Notable portfolio companies include Voltage, which builds Lightning Network infrastructure, and Fedi, a Bitcoin superapp. While total funding dropped 22.1% in 2024 to $234 million. The number of funded startups and pre-seed transactions grew by 27.5% and 50%, respectively.
TVP’s data also showed that despite Bitcoin’s 63% share of crypto market cap, it attracted only 2.34% of venture funding. Managing Director Christopher Calicott remains optimistic, calling Bitcoin the most secure and reliable platform for long-term crypto innovation.
