Luke Dashjr Advocates for Bitcoin Core Fix to Address Vulnerability in Ordinal Inscriptions
Luke Dashjr, the Bitcoin developer and CTO of Mummolin, has expressed his strong disapproval of Ordinal inscriptions, claiming they exploit a vulnerability in the Bitcoin Core full node software.
Dashjr, who actively addressed this issue in his maintained node software, Bitcoin Knots v25.1, spoke about the challenges faced during the fixing process due to disruptions in his workflow. The recently launched bitcoin mining pool, Ocean, affiliated with Dashjr’s company, promptly integrated the Knots fix, preventing inscriptions from entering mined blocks.
Dashjr hinted at a potential similar fix for Bitcoin Core in the upcoming release, expressing concerns about its vulnerability in v26. However, his proposal faced resistance from some Bitcoin community members. Jameson Lopp, co-founder and CTO of Casa, highlighted the economic aspect of mining, emphasizing the duty of large enterprises to maximize profits. Udi Wertheimer, co-founder of Taproot Wizards, clarified that despite Dashjr’s contributions, he does not hold ownership over Bitcoin.
