Jeju Island Embraces the Metaverse: NFTs to Attract Gen Z Tourists
Jeju Island in South Korea plans to launch NFT-based digital resident tourism cards in the second half of 2025 to attract Millennial and Gen Z travelers.
The cards will offer travel subsidies, discounts, and other perks at local tourist destinations. This initiative follows Jeju’s reliance on tourism, boosted by UNESCO World Heritage status for its volcanic landscape. Despite challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, the province is focused on revitalizing its economy through tourism. Digital tourism cards will be issued after a trial phase. Funded by the island’s local currency to support the tourism sector.
