Japan’s Major Pension Fund Eyes Crypto Allocation to Hedge Against U.S. Dollar Weakness

One of Japan’s leading corporate pension funds is reportedly considering allocating up to 1% of its portfolio to cryptocurrencies as part of a broader strategy to diversify assets and hedge against potential long-term weakness in the U.S. dollar.

The move reflects growing institutional interest in digital assets as alternative stores of value alongside traditional investments such as stocks, bonds, gold, and real estate. While the proposed allocation remains relatively small, analysts note that even a 1% commitment from large pension funds could represent substantial capital flowing into the crypto market.

The consideration highlights how institutional investors are increasingly viewing cryptocurrencies as a potential portfolio diversification tool, particularly amid concerns over inflation, currency depreciation, and evolving global monetary policies. If implemented, the move could further strengthen the trend of traditional financial institutions incorporating digital assets into long-term investment strategies.
