Jack Dorsey Donates $5 Million to Empower Bitcoin Developers Through Brink
Jack Dorsey, the tech mogul behind Start Small, continues his commitment to the Bitcoin ecosystem with a generous $5 million donation to Brink.
Over the next five years, Brink will receive $1 million annually to support open-source developers in the Bitcoin space.
Through Brink’s grants, core developers like Fabian Jahr can work full-time on improving the world’s largest cryptocurrency. These contributions are essential to enhancing Bitcoin’s privacy, scalability, and expanding its reach to a wider audience.
This isn’t the first time Dorsey has shown his dedication to underground Bitcoin improvement efforts. He has previously established Spiral, a non-profit for developers, and donated $10 million to OpenSats, another non-profit focused on open-source Bitcoin development. Additionally, Dorsey contributed at least 14 BTC to support the development of Nostr, a decentralized social media protocol.
Brink, founded in 2020 by John Newbery and Mike Schmidt, has quickly become a leading funder of Bitcoin developers. With initial support from Kraken, John Pfeffer, and Wences Cesares, the non-profit aims to strengthen the Bitcoin protocol through research, development, and support for the Bitcoin developer community.
Through Dorsey’s latest donation, Brink is empowered to continue driving innovation and advancement in the Bitcoin space, ensuring a brighter future for the digital payment system.
