Indian National Sentenced to 20 Years in U.S. for $37M Coinbase Crypto Scam

An Indian national, Chirag Tomar, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy for stealing over $37 million by spoofing the Coinbase website.
Tomar and his co-conspirators created a fake Coinbase Pro site to obtain users’ login credentials and two-factor authentication codes. Allowing them to transfer victims’ cryptocurrency to their own wallets. Arrested at Atlanta airport in December. Tomar now faces up to 20 years in prison.
The stolen funds were used for luxury purchases, including expensive watches, high-end cars, and international travel, showcasing the elaborate nature of the fraud.
