Ethereum Proof Of Work (ETHW) Core Dissolves For Full Autonomy Amidst Funding Challenges
On December 18, the Ethereum Proof of Work (ETHW) core development organization dissolved, facilitating the protocol’s quest for full autonomy.
The decision, based on a majority consensus following in-depth discussions, allows ETHW to operate independently without the Core’s support. Upholding proof of work as the underlying consensus, the core team committed to maintaining it over the long term. Existing servers will be temporarily transferred to Onedao for transitional maintenance until long-term ecological partners are identified.
Despite prior attempts to transform the protocol into an all-in-one decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) after The Merge, ETHW encountered funding challenges, prompting a plea for $200,000 on November 30 to sustain servers and recruit part-time engineers. The move was met with criticism, with some questioning the development approach and the team’s communication efforts.
