Empowering Women: New AI PhD Program Launched in Africa
A groundbreaking Africa-Europe initiative aims to train 700 African PhD students in artificial intelligence (AI) over the next decade, starting with an all-female cohort.
Launched by CORE AI, a collaborative research partnership between universities from both continents, the program plans to enroll 100 African women aspiring to earn a PhD in AI each year, with the first cohort beginning in February 2025. CORE AI emphasizes supporting women researchers in fields with low female representation, like AI, and aims to combat systemic discrimination faced by women in AI research, even in European institutions.
