De-dollarization Gains Speed Amid Trump-Era Trade Policies, Expert Warns

Chinese finance expert Zheng Runyu warns that Trump’s tariff policies could accelerate the decline of the U.S. dollar as a global reserve currency.
Speaking to Russian news agency Tass, Zheng linked the tariffs to the U.S.’s attempt to maintain financial dominance but argued that such policies might exacerbate the Triffin paradox, weakening the dollar. As China, Russia, and BRICS countries respond by exploring de-dollarization, Zheng suggests that the trade war could hasten this shift, making cooperation on alternatives to the U.S. dollar more feasible. The intensifying tariff measures, according to Zheng, are driving countries away from dollar dependence, particularly in global finance.
