Dapper Labs Ventures into Digital Pins with Disney Pinnacle: A New Era for NFT Collectibles
Dapper Labs, renowned for NBA Top Shot, has introduced its latest venture, Disney Pinnacle, aimed at digitizing the traditional pin-collecting hobby.
This collaboration with Disney brings iconic characters from Disney’s extensive history, Pixar, and the Star Wars universe into the digital realm. The platform, announced on Tuesday, enables enthusiasts to collect, trade, and showcase NFT digital pins featuring beloved characters. Disney Pinnacle will soon be available on the Apple App Store for iOS devices, allowing users to conveniently carry and share their collections. Hosted on the Flow blockchain, ranked ninth in NFT sales, Dapper Labs emphasizes that Disney Pinnacle incorporates lessons from its previous NFT initiatives.
Disney, which had previously explored the NFT space, including collaborations with Veve for the “Golden Moments” NFT collection in 2021, reportedly dissolved its foray into the metaverse by April 2023 amid organizational restructuring. Flow’s recent 30-day sales show a 23.56% increase, reaching $5,060,499, positioning it as the fifth-largest blockchain in lifetime digital collectible sales, totaling $1.26 billion. While a partnership with Disney could potentially boost sales, the company has faced challenges, as reflected in a recent satire on “South Park.”
