Crypto Investor Loses Fortune After Fake Uber Robbery

An American crypto investor, Jacob Irwin-Cline, was drugged and robbed in London after mistaking a fake Uber for his ride.
After a night out on May 9, he entered a car that matched his app’s description. The driver offered him a cigarette, which Irwin-Cline now believes was laced with a sedative. Under its influence, he unlocked his phone, allowing the thief to access and drain his crypto wallets.
The driver then abandoned him injured on the roadside. Irwin-Cline later discovered that $123,000 in crypto had been stolen—most of his wealth. He traced the funds to exchanges like MEXC and BTSE, but recovery is unlikely. London police have opened an investigation, but no arrests have been made.
