Crypto Breakthrough in Namibia: Central Bank Gives Provisional Approval

On January 13, the Bank of Namibia granted provisional authorization to Mindex Virtual Asset Exchange and Landifa Bitcoin Trade as virtual asset service providers under the 2023 Virtual Asset Act.

This provisional approval is the first step in a two-step licensing process. With conditions that must be met for full authorization. Namibia’s move follows similar steps by Nigeria and South Africa. While these entities cannot begin operations during the six-month provisional period, the decision marks a significant shift as Namibia moves towards fully recognizing cryptocurrencies. Ensuring regulatory compliance and safeguarding consumer interests.
