Congressman Emmer Touts Successful Passage of Crypto Bills in 2023

U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN) highlighted the successful passage of various crypto-related bills by the House Financial Services Committee in 2023.
Taking to the social media platform X, Emmer underscored the committee’s commitment to enhancing capital markets, fostering innovation, and holding regulators accountable. Notable bills mentioned include the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act, aimed at streamlining money transmission regulation in the digital asset space, and the inclusion of key language from Emmer’s Securities Clarity Act in the Financial Innovation and Technology (FIT) for the 21st Century Act.
Emmer emphasized that the latter legislation sets the groundwork for the Ripple decision, clarifying that a token isn’t automatically a securities contract. The CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act, designed to protect against government surveillance, also gained approval in September. Additionally, Emmer shared the success of his appropriations amendment in November, preventing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from using taxpayer funds for crypto enforcement until Congress establishes jurisdiction. Looking ahead, Emmer expressed optimism about advancing these measures through the House in the second half of the 118th Congress in 2024.
