Central Bank of Nigeria Labels High-Denomination Naira Reports as ‘Fake News’

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has denied issuing ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, calling the circulating report “fake news.”

The false claim, which cited Deputy Governor Ibrahim Tahir, suggested the new notes would launch on May 1, 2025, to improve cash transactions. However, the CBN clarified via its X account that the information did not originate from its official sources and urged the public to rely only on verified updates from its website.
