Cardano Unveils 2026 Roadmap with Leios Upgrade and Bitcoin DeFi Expansion

Cardano developer Input Output has revealed its 2026 funding plan, proposing a significantly reduced budget compared to last year as part of a shift toward long-term sustainability.
The roadmap focuses on completing core infrastructure while lowering dependence on treasury funding, signaling a more disciplined and efficiency-driven strategy. A key highlight is the Leios upgrade, which aims to dramatically improve network scalability with the potential to boost transaction throughput to over 1,000 transactions per second. Expected to roll out in 2026, the upgrade could strengthen Cardano’s competitiveness as demand for faster and more efficient blockchain networks grows.
The plan also introduces Pogun, a Bitcoin DeFi tool designed to enable lending, yield generation, and cross-chain functionality within the Cardano ecosystem. Together, these initiatives reflect a broader push to expand utility, improve performance, and attract more users through enhanced interoperability.
