Bukele Celebrates El Salvador’s Transformation While Warning of a ‘New Dark Age’ at the UN
During his address at the United Nations General Assembly, President Nayib Bukele praised El Salvador’s progress in economic revival, personal security, and tourism, contrasting it with global challenges like drug-related crime and social media censorship.
He warned that the world is heading toward a “new dark age” and that El Salvador could serve as a small refuge against the approaching storms. Bukele criticized the Western world for its societal decay, stating that Salvadorans recognize the symptoms of this decline from their own past struggles. He emphasized the importance of preparing for the future, saying, “It may be too late to avoid the dark times facing our world today, but it is not too late to build an ark and weather the storm.”
