Australian Loses $2.5M in Bitcoin Following AFP Crypto Investigation — No Charges Filed

A Queensland man forfeited over $2.9 million in assets—including a mansion, luxury car, and nearly 25 BTC—following an AFP probe into a 2013 crypto theft from a French exchange.

Although no charges were filed, Australian proceeds of crime laws allowed authorities to seize the assets. Which were deemed disproportionate to his income. The Australian Federal Police’s Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce has restrained $770 million in suspected criminal assets since 2019. Targeting historic cybercrime and crypto-related offenses to disrupt financial crime.
