Amazon Invests $5B More in Anthropic as $100B AWS Deal Signals AI Infrastructure Race

Amazon has deepened its commitment to artificial intelligence by investing an additional $5 billion into Anthropic. Bringing its total investment to around $13 billion.
As part of the expanded partnership, Anthropic has agreed to spend more than $100 billion over the next decade on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. The deal secures massive computing capacity—up to 5 gigawatts. Powered by Amazon’s custom AI chips, positioning AWS as a critical backbone for training and deploying Anthropic’s Claude models.
The agreement highlights the escalating “AI compute race,” where access to high-performance infrastructure is becoming a key competitive advantage. By locking in long-term demand from a leading AI company, Amazon strengthens its position against rivals like Microsoft and Google in the cloud and AI ecosystem. At the same time, Anthropic gains the scale needed to meet surging demand for its models. Signaling a broader shift where AI development is increasingly tied to massive, long-term infrastructure investments.
