Over the weekend, dormant Bitcoin holdings totaling 333.99 BTC, equivalent to $14 million at current exchange rates, experienced noteworthy activity after years of inactivity.
The first transaction, initiated by a wallet established on May 2, 2017, involved the transfer of 125 BTC, marking its first movement in six years and eight months. This transaction, identified by btcparser.com, raised privacy concerns with Blockchair’s Privacy-o-Meter assigning it a score of 3 out of 100, indicating a “critical” level due to identifiable matched addresses.
Another transaction originated from the wallet “1NJSa,” created on August 28, 2013, transferring 115.50 BTC and receiving a privacy score of 45 out of 100, classified as a “low” privacy rating. The third transaction traced back to February 23, 2017, involving the wallet “1HmbW,” which dispersed 93.49 BTC after being dormant for six years and 11 months, also receiving a privacy score of 45 out of 100. January 2024 has witnessed subdued activity in ‘sleeping bitcoin,’ particularly from the 2011 and 2010 periods, with minimal movements from these addresses.
