Youthful Surge: The Shifting Landscape of Crypto Investments in France

France’s Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) has noted a significant surge in crypto asset ownership amid the global rise of retail investment.
According to a study backed by the EU, as of 2023, 9% of French adults possess crypto assets. The AMF survey, covering over a thousand new retail investors, unveils that 24% of French adults invest in various financial instruments, with a notable portion opting for cryptocurrencies. Despite traditional investments still dominating portfolios, the inclination toward crypto assets, especially among the youth (average age 36, with a significant portion under 35), signifies a generational shift in investment preferences.
The digitally savvy show a particularly pronounced rise, suggesting a correlation between age, digital trends, and investment choices. While motivations vary, seeking higher returns and diversifying savings are common, influenced in part by social networks and peer recommendations. However, the survey highlights a concerning gap in financial literacy among new investors, emphasizing the need for enhanced education as crypto assets gain mainstream traction.
