Worldcoin’s Rollout Sparks Optimism, Surpasses January Record, and Outpaces Arbitrum in Daily Transactions

This week marked a significant milestone for Optimism (OP), as it surpassed Arbitrum (ARB) in daily transaction count for the first time since January.
The Optimism network experienced a remarkable surge, reaching nearly 945,000 daily transactions on Thursday. This surge is likely attributed to the recent launch of Worldcoin (WLD), a novel digital identity blockchain project co-founded by Sam Altman of Open AI. Worldcoin made a smooth transition to the OP mainnet last week, propelling its transaction numbers. In contrast, Arbitrum maintained a daily transaction range of 600,000-700,000 throughout the week. It’s worth noting that prior to this week, Arbitrum had consistently outperformed Optimism for over six months.
Worldcoin’s unique approach to digital identities using iris scans and specialized hardware called “Orbs” has garnered attention, but it has also raised concerns. France’s privacy watchdog, the CNIL, has already initiated an investigation into the project’s biometric data collection practices to assess its compliance with privacy laws.As of the time of writing, Worldcoin (WLD) is exhibiting a nearly 6% increase in the past 24 hours, and holds the 136th rank by market capitalization. On the other hand, Optimism (OP) is experiencing a 1.35% decline in the past 24 hours, while Arbitrum (ARB) is showing a 0.36% increase in the same period.
