White House Affirms U.S. Partners’ Flexibility in Engaging with BRICS and Other Nations

The White House has clarified that U.S. policy allows partners to maintain relationships with other countries, including those in the BRICS group.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the U.S. does not restrict countries’ partnerships with others. When asked about Algeria and Egypt applying to join BRICS, Jean-Pierre emphasized that the U.S. focuses on demonstrating the benefits of its governance and economic models in engagements. She reiterated that the U.S. does not ask its partners to choose between the United States and other countries, offering them the freedom to make their own choices.
The BRICS economic bloc has attracted significant interest, with over 40 countries expressing their desire to join and 22 formally applying. The upcoming BRICS summit in August has invited 69 leaders, including major Global South bodies and all African heads of state, but no Western country leaders, including France, have received invitations.
