Visa Expands Stablecoin Strategy With Open USD to Bring Institutional Payments On-Chain

Visa is accelerating its push into blockchain-based payments by joining the Open Standard consortium. A new initiative behind the Open USD stablecoin designed to bring institutional payments on-chain.
The consortium, which includes major financial and technology companies such as Mastercard, Coinbase, and BNY, aims to create an open, low-cost, and interoperable stablecoin network that enables businesses to send, receive, mint, and redeem U.S. dollar-backed digital assets at scale. Open USD is designed to support enterprise-grade payments, treasury management. And cross-border settlements while allowing participating institutions to share in the revenue generated from the stablecoin’s reserves.
Visa’s participation highlights the growing adoption of regulated stablecoins by traditional financial institutions as they seek faster. Always-on payment infrastructure and more efficient global money movement.
